PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Within hours of his wife’s death, Kevin Knoefel sought life insurance payments and eventually received more than $ 700,000, according to testimony at his conspiracy to commit murder trial Tuesday.

Knoefel, 43, of Willoughby Hills, faces charges related to sexual relations with his foster daughter, Sabrina Zunich, and complicity to commit aggravated murder for convincing Zunich to kill his wife, Lisa Knoefel.

There is no dispute that Zunich, 19, stabbed Lisa Knoefel, 41, with a serrated 10-inch kitchen knife at 1:15 a.m. November 16, 2012. Kevin Knoefel was a truck driver for Gordon Food Service and was heading home from Michigan at the time of his wife’s death.

Jill Reynolds, benefits specialist for the company, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., said Knoefel called at 8 a.m. the day his wife was killed to let them know his wife was dead and how to file an insurance claim.

He was entitled to $ 10,000 for spousal insurance and $ 60,000 in a supplemental life insurance policy he had purchased, she testified. Since he had also purchased accidental death and dismemberment policy the amount was doubled, she said.
